The overall brief for the gardens was to integrate seamlessly with the home’s mid-century architecture. We wanted it to feel like something out of a Slim Aarons photograph — elegant, less formal, and perfectly in tune with the lifestyle this property represents.

Mature tree planting was very selective to help create a dramatic entry and to highlight different areas in the gardens, but the gardens weren't all about planting trees; it was about creating outdoor zones that complemented the view and the way the house is lived in — areas for entertaining, spaces for quiet reflection, and a flow that connects every part of the property together.

In total, we introduced over 4,000 plants, each chosen with coastal resilience, seasonal interest, and sustainability in mind. The gardens are also deliberately low-maintenance, so the property can function as both a grand residence and an easy lock-up-and-leave home.

The planting didn’t stop at the ground plane — we added large sculptural plantings on the decks, complete with their own personal watering systems, so the greenery feels integrated throughout every level of the house.

Lighting plays an equally important role. Superbly placed garden and architectural lighting transforms the entire property by night into a dramatic, resort-like experience — highlighting textures, guiding movement, and ensuring the landscape feels alive 24 hours a day.

Because this is such a rare double-block site, another part of the vision was to connect both blocks so they felt seamless. The waterfall was always intended as a showpiece, but it needed to be enhanced with layered planting, turning it into a living focal point.

And finally, we introduced something playful and indulgent — a putting green flowing out from the entertaining conservatory overlooking the cliff. It adds not only interest, but accessibility and comfort, ensuring the outdoor spaces are just as memorable as the interiors.
